There is one material so versatile, so extraordinary that if it didn’t exist, we’d have to invent it. Wood!

Our forests are amazing places, and forestry and wood-related products play a vital role in the lives of Australians every single day, and always have.

At its most basic level wood gives us shelter, it gives us heat, it gives us fibre and it gives us furniture.

Our sustainable Forest Management Certification and our Forest Practices Code provide assurances that our forests are conserved and managed responsibly to ensure they deliver social, environmental, cultural and economic benefits now and into the future.

We live in timber houses, surround ourselves with timber furniture and demand timber packaging as the environmentally friendly solution to waste.

Modern technological advancements have seen the variety of applications for wood grow. As innovation, imagination and application of this amazing resource develop, wood is now being used to create things that were never thought possible.

Plantation hardwoods, cross-laminated construction slabs, biocomposite timbers from timber residues and plastic waste and more on island processing are all a part of the complex matrix that is today’s forestry industry and we are excited to be sharing it with you.

About

This is us.

The Tasmanian forestry industry has, like most industries, had its ups and downs. If history tells us anything, this valuable and sought-after resource is to be respected, appreciated and protected.

The modern forestry industry has matured and evolved as global demand soars for timber products as this resource is increasingly recognised for the environmental solutions it provides.

This is an industry filled with research, innovation, forward-thinking and value-adding.

Our timber is sourced from sustainably managed forests, independently audited and certified to an internationally acclaimed standard.

Plantation timbers are on the rise in Tasmania, and incredible advancements are being made in plantation hardwood, construction softwoods and the harvesting technology of native and speciality timbers.

Tasmanian forestry products are revered by builders, architects, furniture makers and producers. And our timber is playing a significant role in the global fight against climate change because timber is The Ultimate Renewable resource. And that’s something we can all be proud of.
